  1. Nature · Restauration des terres

    Promises measured in hectares

Restoration is promised on millions of hectares, yet few sites measure whether degraded land is actually recovering. Plantings die in the first dry season, grazing and fire undo the work, and funders are asked to trust claims. Restoration standards ask for baselines, targets and monitoring.

  2. Ce qui est mesuré

    Soil, plants and weather

Soil probes in restored and reference plots measure moisture and temperature, a weather station measures rain, fixed cameras watch key plantings daily, and seasonal drone surveys map cover and plant survival across the whole site. Soil samples every few years measure organic carbon.

  3. Le nœud de base

    Against the baseline

The node tracks soil moisture in restored plots against reference plots, flags dry spells that threaten new plantings, processes drone surveys into cover and survival maps, and compares every indicator with the baseline and the targets the funder set, season after season.

  4. Radio et liaisons

    Plots to gateway to programme

Plots across the site reach the gateway over a long-range, low-power link. The node sends data and uploads drone surveys over cellular, and the programme sees every site on one view with its baseline and targets. Plot sensors run on batteries and need little attention.

    LoRaWAN · Réseau mobile public
  5. Comment ça marche

From a dry spell to saved seedlings

Six weeks after planting, rain fails. Soil moisture in the restored plots falls below the threshold set for seedlings, and the node alerts the field team. They water the youngest plantings; the next drone survey shows survival holding, and the funder sees it in the seasonal report.

  6. De la commande à l’exploitation · Commande

    Scope the targets

The scope reads the restoration plan, its targets and funder requirements, the site’s degradation, and reference sites. Nexus Observatory Inc. returns the plot and survey design, indicators, reporting and a price per site and per year, kept running beyond the planting phase.

  7. De la commande à l’exploitation · Relevé

    Survey the baseline

Crews map the site, lay out restored and reference plots, fly a baseline drone survey, take soil samples and choose gateway and camera positions. The baseline is recorded before any work so change can be shown. Every finding is kept with the site record for the crews who follow.

  8. De la commande à l’exploitation · Autorisations

    Land, communities and flights

Land owners and communities agree to plots and access, grazing arrangements are recorded, and drone flights follow aviation rules and privacy rules for people and homes. Every agreement is kept with the site record. Approvals are tracked site by site, so nothing waits unseen.

  9. De la commande à l’exploitation · Fabrication

    Build and test

Soil probes, weather sensors and cameras are tested, radios paired, the gateway and node configured with the site’s baseline and targets and enrolled with their identities. The drone survey kit is tested with the processing workflow. Test results travel with the kit to the site.

  10. De la commande à l’exploitation · Installation

    Install plots and cameras

Crews install soil probes and weather sensors in restored and reference plots, set fixed cameras over key plantings, raise the gateway and connect solar power. Every plot is marked, surveyed and photographed. The site record is updated before the crew leaves.

  11. De la commande à l’exploitation · Mise en service

    Commission with the first survey

Chaque nœud prouve son identité. Soil readings are checked against samples, weather against a reference, and the first drone survey is processed and checked against field counts of plant survival. Indicators start from the baseline. Results are signed and kept with the site record.

  12. De la commande à l’exploitation · Exploitation

    Show recovery

Managers and funders see soil moisture, plant survival and cover against the baseline and targets. Dry spells trigger watering or replanting before plantings die, and every season’s survey adds to the evidence. Reports for owners and funders come from the same record.

  13. De la commande à l’exploitation · Maintenance

    Survey every season

Drone surveys are flown each season, soil is resampled every few years, sensors are checked and batteries swapped, and software updates roll out in rings. Monitoring continues beyond planting so long-term recovery is on record. Spares and procedures travel with the crews.

01Le lieu et ses dangers

Où il fonctionne, et ce qui peut mal tourner.

Operating contextRestoration practice has international principles and standards that ask for baselines, targets and monitoring; land degradation neutrality is assessed with indicators of land cover, productivity and soil carbon; and the global biodiversity framework includes a target for restoring degraded ecosystems.

Dangers

  • Plantings that die in the first dry season
  • Soil that keeps eroding after planting
  • Grazing and fire that undo the work
  • Claims of hectares restored without evidence
  • Monitoring that stops when funding ends

05De la commande à l’exploitation

Chaque étape, du premier appel à un site en service.

La même équipe et le même dossier portent le travail, du cadrage à la maintenance.

  1. 01 Order

    Scope the targets

The scope reads the restoration plan, its targets and funder requirements, the site’s degradation, and reference sites. Nexus Observatory Inc. returns the plot and survey design, indicators, reporting and a price per site and per year, kept running beyond the planting phase. 2

  2. 02 Survey

    Survey the baseline

Crews map the site, lay out restored and reference plots, fly a baseline drone survey, take soil samples and choose gateway and camera positions. The baseline is recorded before any work so change can be shown. Every finding is kept with the site record for the crews who follow. 1

  3. 03 Permits

    Land, communities and flights

Land owners and communities agree to plots and access, grazing arrangements are recorded, and drone flights follow aviation rules and privacy rules for people and homes. Every agreement is kept with the site record. Approvals are tracked site by site, so nothing waits unseen.

  4. 04 Build

    Build and test

Soil probes, weather sensors and cameras are tested, radios paired, the gateway and node configured with the site’s baseline and targets and enrolled with their identities. The drone survey kit is tested with the processing workflow. Test results travel with the kit to the site.

  5. 05 Install

    Install plots and cameras

Crews install soil probes and weather sensors in restored and reference plots, set fixed cameras over key plantings, raise the gateway and connect solar power. Every plot is marked, surveyed and photographed. The site record is updated before the crew leaves.

  6. 06 Commission

    Commission with the first survey

Chaque nœud prouve son identité. Soil readings are checked against samples, weather against a reference, and the first drone survey is processed and checked against field counts of plant survival. Indicators start from the baseline. Results are signed and kept with the site record. 2

  7. 07 Operate

    Show recovery

Managers and funders see soil moisture, plant survival and cover against the baseline and targets. Dry spells trigger watering or replanting before plantings die, and every season’s survey adds to the evidence. Reports for owners and funders come from the same record. 14

  8. 08 Maintain

    Survey every season

Drone surveys are flown each season, soil is resampled every few years, sensors are checked and batteries swapped, and software updates roll out in rings. Monitoring continues beyond planting so long-term recovery is on record. Spares and procedures travel with the crews.
