Small systems, most failures
Small community supplies serve millions and fail most often. A pump stops overnight, chlorine runs out, a storm turns the source turbid, and the operator, often part-time, learns from complaints. International guidelines ask for water safety plans, including a version written for small supplies.
Ce qui est mesuré
Turbidity, chlorine, levels and pumps
Sensors measure turbidity at the source and after treatment and free chlorine after dosing and at the far end of the network. Level sensors watch tanks, wells and intakes, and flow meters and pump contacts show whether water is moving. Each point sits where the plan says control matters.
- Instruments
- Turbidity · Free chlorine · Tank level · Flow and pump state
Le nœud de base
Plain words to a phone
The node checks chlorine and turbidity against the plan’s limits, works out when chlorine stock or a tank will run out, detects a failed pump from the flow and sends the operator a plain-language alert on a phone, with what to check first.
Radio et liaisons
Cellular, and a low-power link
Most small systems have some coverage, so cellular carries readings and alerts. Points at the far end of the network or at remote tanks reach the node over a low-power radio link, without new cables or trenches. Each remote point runs on a small solar panel and battery.

Comment ça marche
From a storm to safe water
Heavy rain turns the source turbid. The node sees turbidity rise and chlorine demand climb, and alerts the operator, who switches to the storage tank and adjusts dosing. Chlorine at the far end stays within limits, and the incident is recorded for the health authority.
De la commande à l’exploitation · Commande
Scope with the water safety plan
The scope reads the system’s water safety plan or helps start one: sources, treatment, storage, the network, past incidents and who operates it. Nexus Observatory Inc. returns the monitoring points, alerts, training and a price per system and per year, kept affordable for small supplies.

Walk the system
Crews walk the system with the operator from source to the last tap: intake or well, treatment and dosing, tanks, pumps, pipe routes and the far end of the network. Monitoring points are chosen where the plan says control matters, and coverage is checked.
De la commande à l’exploitation · Autorisations
Approvals and the health authority
The health authority is told of the monitoring and agrees how alerts and records support the system’s duties. Land owners approve equipment at remote tanks and intakes. Every agreement is kept with the system record. No crew goes to site before its approvals are in place.
De la commande à l’exploitation · Fabrication
Build and calibrate
Sensors are calibrated against laboratory references for turbidity and chlorine, nodes are configured with the plan’s limits, enrolled with their identities and tested with the hub and backhaul. Kits are labelled for each point before they ship. Nothing ships until the whole kit has passed its tests together.
Ouvrir le configurateur de stationsDe la commande à l’exploitation · Installation
Install with the operator
Crews and the operator fit sensors at the source, after dosing, in tanks and at the network end, install hubs, nodes and solar power, and connect backhaul. The operator learns how to clean and check each sensor during the install.
De la commande à l’exploitation · Mise en service
Commission against grab samples
Chaque nœud prouve son identité. Turbidity and chlorine readings are compared with grab samples measured by the reference methods, levels with manual dips and flows with the meter. Alerts are tested to the operator’s phone. Acceptance is recorded with the owner before handover.
De la commande à l’exploitation · Exploitation
Operate with alerts
The operator sees the whole system on a phone and receives plain-language alerts when chlorine falls, turbidity rises, a tank drops or a pump stops. The health authority sees the safety record, and circuit riders see every system in their district.
De la commande à l’exploitation · Maintenance
Clean, check and recalibrate
Sensors are cleaned and checked on the operator’s routine, recalibrated against grab samples on the agreed plan, and replaced from spares. Software updates arrive remotely in rings, and every change is recorded with the system. Maintenance history stays with each site for its whole life.

01Le lieu et ses dangers
Où il fonctionne, et ce qui peut mal tourner.
Operating contextInternational drinking-water guidelines set the framework for safe water and recommend water safety plans, including a version written for small community supplies. Turbidity and free chlorine are measured by international methods, and most small systems are run by one part-time operator with little time and no laboratory.
Dangers
- Turbid source water after storms
- Chlorine that runs out or is dosed wrongly
- Pumps that fail and tanks that run dry
- Contamination entering through damaged pipes
- Operators who learn of problems from complaints

07Questions des acheteurs
Avant de cadrer votre projet.
Does it replace lab testing?
No. It watches continuously between the samples the rules require.
Is it affordable for a small system?
The kit is sized to the system and shared tools keep costs low.
Can a part-time operator use it?
Yes. Alerts are plain language on a phone.
What if there is no power at the tank?
Remote points run on small solar panels.
