  1. Research · Use cases

Instruments for science, run like infrastructure

Research site and instrument services, observing networks that fill gaps in the global record, data with provenance from the first sample, and qualification so a result can be reproduced on another instrument. Needs: gaps in the global observing record, instrument uptime at remote sites, calibration traceability, data provenance and open publication.

  2. Use case

    Northern civil observatory

Weather, geodetic and space-weather instruments with communications and power at a remote northern site, built for civil use that infrastructure programmes may share. For natural-resource and environment departments, northern communities. Data products: weather and space-weather observations and search-and-rescue support data.

    Standards
    WMO-No. 8 · IGS RINEX · INTERMAGNET
  3. Use case

    GBON gap-filler station

A WMO-grade surface station, optional upper-air ground station and a WIS 2.0 node, built to report reliably where the global basic observing network has gaps. For national meteorological and hydrological services, through their implementing entities. Data products: hourly and sub-hourly BUFR observations to WIS 2.0, national open data and verification feeds and reporting-uptime evidence.

    Standards
    WMO-No. 8 (CIMO Guide) · WMO-No. 1160 (Manual on WIGOS, GBON) · WMO WIS 2.0 · WMO-No. 306 (BUFR)
  4. Use case

    Research-infrastructure gap node

A standardised observation package with a FAIR data pipeline, built to extend a research infrastructure’s coverage. For research infrastructures and universities. Data products: FAIR datasets delivered to research-infrastructure portals. Drawn against ICOS and eLTER quality levels, netCDF/CF and OGC SensorThings API.

    Standards
ICOS and eLTER quality levels · netCDF/CF · OGC SensorThings API
  5. Use case

    Citizen seismology node

A compact seismograph on a network connection, registered in an open seismic data network. For schools, hobbyists, agencies. Data products: FDSN-compatible waveform streams. Drawn against FDSN station metadata and data formats. Changes are versioned, tested and reversible. Service levels are written as numbers you can measure.

    Standards
FDSN station metadata and data formats
  6. Use case

    Bioacoustic biodiversity observatory

Open-hardware acoustic recorders on solar power with low-power radio or satellite uplink, for species baselines. For conservation organisations, parks, credit developers. Data products: species occupancy and acoustic baselines. Drawn against FAIR data principles. Every reading and every change leaves a record that can be checked later.

    Standards
    FAIR data principles
  7. Use case

    Wave buoy coastal array

Low-cost moored wave buoys with satellite telemetry, deployed as an array along a coast or port approach. For ports, coastal agencies, surf and fishing communities. Data products: wave spectra and sea-state time series and inputs to coastal forecasts. Drawn against IOOS and IMOS quality-control procedures.

    Standards
    IOOS and IMOS quality-control procedures
  8. Use case

    Low-cost stream gauge network

Radar or pressure level sensors with low-power radio and solar power, as a cheaper tier beside a national gauge network. For provinces and states, watershed boards. Data products: stage and flow time series and flood-warning inputs, labelled supplementary. Drawn against WMO hydrological observing practices and National gauge standards.

    Standards
WMO hydrological observing practices · National gauge standards
  9. Trust

Every node proves what it is

A node joins only after its hardware root of trust answers an attestation challenge. Keys stay in secure hardware, software arrives signed, and every reading carries a signature, so its origin can be checked by anyone downstream without asking us.

  10. Time and place

Every reading carries when and where

Readings are stamped against a disciplined clock, from satellite time or a PTP grandmaster, together with the station position and its siting record. When time or position is degraded, the record says so instead of hiding it, and every analyst downstream sees the same warning.

  11. How it scales

    One base unit, repeated

A programme starts with one base node and the instruments it reads. A station adds power and radio, a site adds a relay, a fleet repeats the proven site across many places, and a network federates fleets through edge and core. Capacity grows by adding units, never by replacing what works.

  12. What you get

    Research site and instrument services

Site power, connectivity, timing and operations for telescopes, flux towers and research stations. Delivered as managed service and professional services, for universities, research infrastructures, space agencies. Scale: Global research sites. Service levels are written as numbers you can measure on your own dashboard.

    Plan a research deployment

Tell us the sites, the measurements and the people who will use them. We reply with a design and a scope for research. An engineer replies with a survey proposal and a scope, and the plan grows from one site to the network you need, at your pace.
