Education: every school a working observatory: where it is deployed. The loop, step by step: 1. The bell rings and the class heads outside. 2. The chain from source to console stands ready. 3. A front blows across the playground. 4. Students read the station and log the weather. 5. Time and place are fixed to every sample. 6. Readings travel to the school edge node. 7. Relays carry the packets without reading them. 8. Signatures are checked before any model runs. 9. The school dataset joins the regional map. 10. The edge releases confirmed results only. 11. The classroom screen draws the day’s weather. 12. The console shows the evidence with the alert. 13. The class compares its data with the network. 14. Sensors check that the response worked. 15. Record, proof and action are archived together. 16. The weather passes and the station keeps logging.

Every school, a working observatory
School and campus observatories on real instruments, student data on the same grid as the professionals’, technician training on delivered systems, and learning paths from first principles to a commissioned site. Needs: weather and air at the school, data students can analyse, hands-on instruments, technician skills and materials for teachers.
Use case
School connectivity observatory
A connected school as an observatory node: backhaul, Wi-Fi, a connectivity probe and an optional weather and air-quality station. For education ministries, UN country offices, school networks. Data products: school connectivity status and classroom weather and air datasets. Drawn against Open school-mapping and daily-check tools of the programme and GLOBE protocols (optional).
- Standards
- Open school-mapping and daily-check tools of the programme · GLOBE protocols (optional)
Use case
State or provincial mesonet site
A full weather station on a solar-powered tower with soil sensors, one of a dense network run by a university. For universities, provinces and states. Data products: hyperlocal observations for forecasters and emergency managers. Drawn against National mesonet programme standards and WMO-No.
- Standards
- National mesonet programme standards · WMO-No. 8
Use case
Hybrid air-quality observatory
A few reference analysers and many low-cost nodes, with co-location calibration and an open-data feed. For cities, public-health units, school districts. Data products: air-quality index and hyperlocal maps, labelled supplementary, calibrated time series with quality flags and publication route to an open air-quality aggregator.
- Standards
- EU Directive 2024/2881 (ambient air quality) · CEN/TS 17660 (sensor systems) · US EPA FEM/FRM reference methods
Use case
Citizen seismology node
A compact seismograph on a network connection, registered in an open seismic data network. For schools, hobbyists, agencies. Data products: FDSN-compatible waveform streams. Drawn against FDSN station metadata and data formats. Changes are versioned, tested and reversible. Service levels are written as numbers you can measure.
- Standards
- FDSN station metadata and data formats
Trust
Every node proves what it is
A node joins only after its hardware root of trust answers an attestation challenge. Keys stay in secure hardware, software arrives signed, and every reading carries a signature, so its origin can be checked by anyone downstream without asking us.
Time and place
Every reading carries when and where
Readings are stamped against a disciplined clock, from satellite time or a PTP grandmaster, together with the station position and its siting record. When time or position is degraded, the record says so instead of hiding it, and every analyst downstream sees the same warning.
How it scales
One base unit, repeated
A programme starts with one base node and the instruments it reads. A station adds power and radio, a site adds a relay, a fleet repeats the proven site across many places, and a network federates fleets through edge and core. Capacity grows by adding units, never by replacing what works.
Updates
Updates in rings, with rollback
Software and configuration reach the fleet in rings: a canary site first, then a few, then all, each ring gated on health and data completeness. A failed gate stops the wave and returns each node to its last good release, without a site visit.
Operations
Every node watched, every incident closed
The operations console shows every node with its state, its plan and its evidence. Alerts arrive with their data and a runbook; acknowledging one opens a work order, and an incident closes only when the cause is recorded and the fix verified.
Field service
One crew, from survey to repair
The same crew surveys, installs, commissions, calibrates and repairs, working from the site’s own record. Each visit updates it, so the next crew knows exactly what is there, when it was last checked and why it was changed. Spares and references are planned from that history.
What you get
Sensing as a Service
Observation networks designed, installed, operated and maintained for a monthly fee: weather, hydromet, air, seismic and environmental stations, with data delivered under a licence. Delivered as managed service and data licence, for agencies, utilities, municipalities, insurers, agribusiness. Scale: Global, multi-site, per-site pricing.

Tell us the sites, the measurements and the people who will use them. We reply with a design and a scope for education. An engineer replies with a survey proposal and a scope, and the plan grows from one site to the network you need, at your pace.
