Resilience: infrastructure that reports before it fails: the people who run it. The loop, step by step: 1. A valley site at first light. 2. The chain from source to console stands ready. 3. Cloud and wind sweep up the valley. 4. The station and the vault register it. 5. Each reading is stamped with time and place. 6. Signed packets hop over the radio link. 7. The relay forwards sealed packets untouched. 8. Signatures are checked before any model runs. 9. The edge model checks it against its limit. 10. The edge releases confirmed results only. 11. The alert reaches the operator console. 12. The alert arrives with its evidence attached. 13. Record, proof and action are archived together. 14. Everything settles back to idle.

Stories

Story · Resilient operations When the links failObserving systems matter most on the days infrastructure fails. Designing for that day means local autonomy, stored power, store-and-forward delivery and…Story · Forest and wildfire Seeing smoke soonerA fire is cheapest to fight in its first hour. Ridge-top cameras, weather in the stand and satellite hot spots each see it at different times and scales;…Story · Mountains and avalanche terrain Snowpack, slope and signalAvalanche forecasting reasons about the likelihood and size of avalanches on given terrain. Places and networks

Guided tour · Guided 3D tour Mountain valley siteA private 5G tower, an automatic weather station, a compact radar and a seismic vault on real alpine terrain, joined to an edge data centre that admits, times and publishes every…Guided tour · Guided 3D tour Arctic stationA self-powered station on the ice: a microgrid, a low-orbit satellite terminal, a weather station, a GNSS monument and an edge node that holds data through the polar night.Guided tour · Guided 3D tour Transmission corridorLattice towers carry a line across open country; conductor sensors report temperature and sag, and the substation edge brings them into the grid operator’s systems.Network scene · NTN · Satellite Satellite direct to device in a mountain valleyWhere the valley cell cannot reach, phones on the pass road connect straight to a low-orbit satellite, which relays through its feeder link to a gateway.Network scene · Private 5G · Mining Private 5G in an open-pit mineA private network for haul trucks, drills and slope radar: a mast on the rim, a cell in the pit, the core at the plant, and coverage computed over the benches themselves.

Heritage observatories

Heritage observatory · Norway · 1989 Zeppelin Observatory, Ny-ÅlesundA small observatory on a mountain at 79 degrees north, above the Arctic fjord town of Ny-Ålesund.Heritage observatory · Antarctica · 1956 Halley Research StationA British Antarctic Survey station on a floating ice shelf, where a ground-based instrument and patient staff recorded the thinning of the ozone layer that satellites had flagged…

01Why a community

Observation is built by many hands.

Engineers, operators, researchers and residents each see a part of the system. The community puts the parts in one place.

One standard for every space we host.

  • RespectDisagree with ideas, never with people. No harassment, in any form.
  • BewyseClaims carry their source. Measurements carry their method.
  • CreditWork is credited to the people who did it, under the licence they chose.
  • SafetyNo instructions that put people, sites or networks at risk.
  • PrivaatheidNo one’s personal data is posted without their consent.
  • AuthorityOfficial warnings and decisions stay with the bodies that hold them.

The line we hold

Lawful civil and dual-use work only, inside the published red lines. No weapons, targeting or offensive systems.
