5G core functions.

Technologies

• Access and mobility management (AMF) Registration, connection and mobility handling for every device attached to the network.
• Session management (SMF) PDU session set-up, IP allocation and user-plane selection.
• User plane function (UPF) and N4 Packet forwarding, QoS enforcement and usage reporting, controlled by the SMF over PFCP.
• Service-based architecture and NRF HTTP-based service interfaces between core functions, with discovery through the repository function.
• Policy control (PCF) QoS, charging and access policy applied per subscriber, slice and application.
• Subscriber data and authentication (UDM, AUSF, UDR) Subscription storage, credentials and 5G authentication, including SIM and non-SIM credentials for private networks.
• Network exposure (NEF) and network APIs Controlled exposure of location, QoS and device status to applications through standard APIs.
• Location services (LMF) Core location management that computes device positions from RAN and GNSS measurements.
• Roaming and interconnect security (SEPP) Protected signalling between networks for roaming and partner access.
• 6G core architecture studies Release 20 work on the next system architecture, including AI, sensing and NTN as native features.
