Install and commission

Built to the plan, accepted on test.

Install and commission, inside Field services: civil works and foundations, structured cabling and fibre, bonding and grounding installation, PV and power commissioning and more. Every item is traced to its specification, from ANSI/TIA-222-I to CSA S37:24, and runs on the open Observatory Protocol.

01What it is

Installation, commissioning and acceptance.

Everything that happens on the ground across a site’s life: survey, permits, design packs, logistics, installation, acceptance, training, operations, maintenance, upgrades, decommission and recycling, done safely and recorded as evidence. Each technology below carries what it is, what we do with it, and the standard it is drawn against.

Field operations and lifecycle

Civil works and foundations

Footings, anchors, cable routes and enclosures built to the design pack.

We deploy.

ANSI/TIA-222-I · CSA S37:24

Field operations and lifecycle

Structured cabling and fibre

Copper and fibre installed, labelled and tested.

We deploy and maintain.

ANSI/TIA-568.2-D · ISO/IEC 11801-1 · IEC 61280-4-1 (fibre attenuation)

Field operations and lifecycle

Bonding and grounding installation

Grounding systems installed and measured before equipment is energised.

We deploy and maintain.

ANSI/TIA-607-D · IEEE 81

Field operations and lifecycle

PV and power commissioning

Inspection and test of the PV array, storage and power system with records.

We deploy and maintain.

IEC 62446-1 (PV testing, documentation and maintenance)

Field operations and lifecycle

RF commissioning

Antenna alignment, sweep, return loss and passive intermodulation checks.

We deploy and maintain.

IEC 62037 series (passive intermodulation)

Field operations and lifecycle

Instrument and control commissioning

Loop checks, configuration and function tests of instruments and controllers.

We deploy and maintain.

IEC 62337 (commissioning of electrical, instrumentation and control systems)

Field operations and lifecycle

Node enrolment and attestation at first boot

Each node enrols, attests and receives its first signed plan before going live.

We deploy and operate.

Observatory Protocol specification (Nexus Consortium) · IETF RFC 9334

Field operations and lifecycle

Site and integration acceptance testing

Agreed tests on site and end to end, signed off against acceptance criteria.

We deploy and operate.

IEC 62381 (SAT and SIT)

Field operations and lifecycle

Sensor acceptance and intercomparison

Comparing new instruments with a travelling or reference standard before data is published.

We deploy and operate.

WMO instrument intercomparisons · ISO/IEC 17025:2017

03On the grid

Every site joins one observing grid.

The open networks on the grid today, over real relief and the geodesic cells we count them into, filtered to the solid earth domain this area serves. A site built here enrols into the same grid.
