OT and wireless security: a substation's controllers and its radio link watched for tampering. The loop, step by step: 1. A substation, a microwave link and a monitor. 2. Sensor, link, edge and console stand ready. 3. A rogue radio appears near the control link. 4. The monitor spots an unknown transmitter. 5. Time and place are fixed to every sample. 6. The alert travels the protected path. 7. Relays carry the packets without reading them. 8. Signatures are checked before any model runs. 9. The edge confirms it is not an approved device. 10. The edge releases confirmed results only. 11. The control room sees the location. 12. The console shows the evidence with the alert. 13. The link switches to its backup channel. 14. Sensors check that the response worked. 15. The whole chain is archived for audit. 16. Everything settles back to idle.

# Field networks, 5G and the software supply chain.

OT and wireless security, inside Security and trust: 5G system security, network product security assurance, open RAN security, 5G security reference practice and more. Every item is traced to its specification, from 3GPP TS 33.501 (Rel-18) to 3GPP TS 33.117 (SCAS general requirements), and runs on the open Observatory Protocol.

## 5G system security

Authentication, key hierarchy, subscriber privacy and network domain security for 5G. In OT and wireless security, part of Security and trust, the 5G and wireless security layer holds 5G system security, drawn against 3GPP TS 33.501 and used beside OT security guidance and threat models on the same sites.

The problem

### Field networks, 5G and the software supply chain

Field devices sit in public places, run for years and join networks that also carry control traffic. A single unverified node or unsigned update can reach far beyond the sensor it came with. Security has to be built into how every node joins, updates and reports, because nobody can guard unattended sites in person.

1. Security and trust · OT and wireless security Field networks, 5G and the software supply chain Field devices sit in public places, run for years and join networks that also carry control traffic. A single unverified node or unsigned update can reach far beyond the sensor it came with. Security has to be built into how every node joins, updates and reports, because nobody can guard unattended sites in person.
2. What it does 5G system security Authentication, key hierarchy, subscriber privacy and network domain security for 5G. In OT and wireless security, part of Security and trust, the 5G and wireless security layer holds 5G system security, drawn against 3GPP TS 33.501 and used beside OT security guidance and threat models on the same sites. Specification3GPP TS 33.501 (Rel-18)
3. 5G and wireless security Open RAN security Security requirements for open fronthaul, near-real-time RIC and O-Cloud interfaces. In OT and wireless security, part of Security and trust, the 5G and wireless security layer holds open RAN security, drawn against O-RAN WG11 security specifications. We build it into every site for OT and wireless security against that standard, and keep its version and its test results on the site’s record. SpecificationO-RAN WG11 security specifications
4. 5G and wireless security Network product security assurance Security test specifications and assessment schemes for 5G network functions. In OT and wireless security, part of Security and trust, the 5G and wireless security layer holds network product security assurance, drawn against 3GPP TS 33.117 and GSMA NESAS and used beside LPWAN security on the same sites. Specification3GPP TS 33.117 (SCAS general requirements) · GSMA NESAS
5. OT security and software supply chain System and component security levels Security requirements for systems and components at target security levels. In OT and wireless security, part of Security and trust, the OT security and software supply chain layer holds system and component security levels, drawn against IEC 62443-3-3 and IEC 62443-4-2 and used beside RF jamming and rogue emitter detection on the same sites. SpecificationIEC 62443-3-3 (system requirements) · IEC 62443-4-2 (component requirements)
6. Time and place When and where, on every record Every record made for OT and wireless security carries its time, from a clock disciplined by satellite time or a PTP grandmaster, with the position and siting record of the station that made it. When time or position degrades, the record for OT and wireless security says so, and every user downstream sees the same warning.
7. OT security and software supply chain Industrial security programmes Security management system for asset owners of control and monitoring systems. In OT and wireless security, part of Security and trust, the OT security and software supply chain layer holds industrial security programmes, drawn against IEC 62443-2-1 and used beside 5G security reference practice on the same sites. SpecificationIEC 62443-2-1
8. Trust Proved before it is trusted A node joins a network for OT and wireless security only after its hardware root of trust answers an attestation challenge. Its keys stay in secure hardware, its software arrives signed and every record it makes for OT and wireless security carries a signature, so anyone downstream can check where a value came from.
9. Evidence Traced to its specifications We trace each part of OT and wireless security to its specification: 3GPP TS 33.501, IEC 62443-2-1 and 3GPP TS 33.117. We keep the versions, configurations and test results of OT and wireless security as signed records, so a buyer or an auditor can check what was delivered against what was specified. Standards3GPP TS 33.501 · IEC 62443-2-1 · 3GPP TS 33.117 · GSMA NESAS
10. Updates Updates in rings, with rollback Software and configuration reach a fleet for OT and wireless security in rings: one canary site first, then a few, then all, each ring gated on health and data completeness. A failed gate stops the wave, and each node for OT and wireless security returns to its last good release without a site visit.
11. How it scales One base unit, repeated A network for OT and wireless security starts with one base node and the instruments it reads. A station adds power and radio, a site adds a relay and a fleet repeats the proven site, so capacity for OT and wireless security grows by adding units, never by replacing what works.
12. What you get Operational-technology assurance for observing sites Identity, attestation, segmentation and monitoring for instruments and edge nodes, with evidence for audits. Stated as services, never as a security guarantee. For OT and wireless security, it goes to operators of critical sites and agencies as a managed service or professional services, sized to the sites they run. [Talk to sales](https://observatory.global/contact/sales-enquiry/)
13. Next step OT and wireless security, planned with you Tell us the sites, the systems OT and wireless security must work with and the outcome you need, with a map or a list of addresses if you have one. An engineer replies with a survey proposal, a design and a scope for OT and wireless security, and the plan grows from one site to the network you need.
