# PTP to G.8275.1, GNSS with holdover.

Timing, inside Connectivity: precision Time Protocol, telecom profile with full timing support, telecom profile with partial timing support, frequency synchronisation profile and more. Every item is traced to its specification, from IEEE 1588-2019 to ITU-T G.8275.1, and runs on the open Observatory Protocol.

**01** What it is

## Packet timing: PTP, SyncE and NTP.

The shared foundations every network and sensor depends on: how spectrum is licensed, shared and monitored, GNSS positioning and its corrections, packet timing with PTP and SyncE, grandmasters and holdover, resilient PNT alternatives, and the detection of interference, jamming and spoofing. Each technology below carries what it is, what we do with it, and the standard it is drawn against.

Spectrum, timing and PNT

### Precision Time Protocol

The base protocol for distributing time and phase over packet networks.

We design, integrate and operate.

IEEE 1588-2019

Spectrum, timing and PNT

### Telecom profile with full timing support

Every node a boundary or transparent clock, for the phase accuracy TDD and Open RAN need.

We design, integrate and operate.

ITU-T G.8275.1 · ITU-T G.8273.2 (T-BC and T-TSC classes) · ITU-T G.8273.3 (T-TC)

Spectrum, timing and PNT

### Telecom profile with partial timing support

Timing over networks that do not support PTP in every node, often with local GNSS assist.

We design, integrate and operate.

ITU-T G.8275.2 · ITU-T G.8273.4 (partial timing support clocks)

Spectrum, timing and PNT

### Frequency synchronisation profile

PTP used to deliver frequency only, for FDD and legacy equipment.

We design and operate.

ITU-T G.8265.1

Spectrum, timing and PNT

### Synchronous Ethernet and enhanced SyncE

Physical-layer frequency distribution that stabilises PTP and supports holdover.

We design, integrate and operate.

ITU-T G.8261 · ITU-T G.8262 and G.8262.1 (EEC and eEEC) · ITU-T G.8264 (ESMC)

Spectrum, timing and PNT

### Time and phase network limits

End-to-end error budgets that each network segment must meet.

We design and operate.

ITU-T G.8271 (time and phase synchronisation aspects) · ITU-T G.8271.1 (network limits, full timing support)

Spectrum, timing and PNT

### Industry PTP profiles

Profiles for power utilities, broadcast and time-sensitive networking used at shared sites.

We design and integrate.

IEEE C37.238 (power profile) · IEC/IEEE 61850-9-3 (utility profile) · IEEE 802.1AS (gPTP)

**Frontier** · Spectrum, timing and PNT

### Sub-nanosecond timing (high-accuracy profile)

Enhanced PTP techniques for sub-nanosecond alignment in science and metrology networks.

We design and integrate.

IEEE 1588-2019 (high accuracy default PTP profile)

Spectrum, timing and PNT

### NTP and Network Time Security

Millisecond-class time for IT systems and logs, with authenticated time.

We design and operate.

IETF RFC 5905 (NTPv4) · IETF RFC 8915 (NTS)

02**Admit** Admitted for a stated scope, nothing wider.

03**Describe** What, where, how and by whom, with calibration.

04**Time** One clock across the grid, with its error bound.

05**Observe** Every value with quality and provenance.

06**Qualify** Tested against the specification, state on record.

07**Federate** Signed exchange across grids and trust domains.

**03** On the grid

## Every site joins one observing grid.

The open networks on the grid today, over real relief and the geodesic cells we count them into, filtered to the solid earth domain this area serves. A site built here enrols into the same grid.
